A comparison of job numbers across the G7 casts a sliver of doubt on Tory claim

OTTAWA - The Harper government says Canada has the best record in the G7 when it comes to creating jobs. Here is what the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development employment data show.

Number of people between the ages of 15 and 64 employed during the third quarter of 2009:

Canada — 16,777,600

France — 25,607,960

Germany — 38,205,190

Italy — 22,993,760

Japan — 62,980,000

United Kingdom — 28,831,900

United States — 139,403,700

Number of people between the ages of 15 and 64 employed during the third quarter of 2013:

Canada — 17,753,030

France — 25,723,660

Germany — 40,499,230

Italy — 22,356,730

Japan — 63,073,330

United Kingdom — 29,851,500

United States — 144,244,700

Percentage change between the third quarter of 2009 and the third quarter of 2013:

Germany — 6.00 per cent

Canada — 5.81 per cent

United Kingdom — 3.54 per cent

United States — 3.47 per cent

France — 0.45 per cent

Japan — 0.15 per cent

Italy — -2.77 per cent
