TORONTO - Some of the most active companies traded Thursday on the Toronto Stock Exchange and the TSX Venture Exchange:

Toronto Stock Exchange (13,932.97 down 55.23 points):

Osisko Mining Corp. (TSX:OSK). Miner. Up 14 cents, or 2.16 per cent, to $6.63 on 7.9 million shares.

BlackBerry Ltd. (TSX:BB). Wireless communications. Down 37 cents, or 3.09 per cent, to $11.59 on 7.5 million shares.

Bombardier Inc. (TSX:BBD.B). Transportation equipment. Up one cent, or 0.26 per cent, to $3.92 on 6.1 million shares.

Manulife Financial Corp. (TSX:MFC). Insurance. Down 41 cents, or 1.85 per cent, to $21.80 on 5.6 million shares.

Fortis Inc. (TSX:FTS.IR). Utility. Down 35 cents, or 1.08 per cent, to $32 on 5.5 million shares.

Air Canada (TSX:AC.B). Airline. Down 13 cents, or 1.34 per cent, to $9.54 on 4.9 million shares.

Toronto Venture Exchange (983.28 up 2.84 of a point):

Primary Petroleum Corp. (TSXV:PIE). Oil and gas. Up 12.5 cents, or 138.89 per cent, to 21.5 cents on 12.1 million shares.

Madalena Energy Inc. (TSXV:MVN). Oil and gas. Down five cents, or 7.04 per cent, to 66 cents on 4.9 million shares.

Companies reporting major news:

Open Text Corp. (TSX:OTC). Application software. Down 39 cents, or 0.39 per cent, to $100.19 on 337,568 shares. The business software company said after markets closed that it will split its stock two-for-one next month in order to make its shares more accessible to individual shareholders and improve liquidity. That announcement came as the company, which keeps its books in U.S. dollars, said it earned a lower profit of US$53.5 million in its second quarter, down from $61.1 million a year ago.

Penn West Petroleum Ltd. (TSX:PWT). Oil and gas. Down 33 cents, or 4.01 per cent, to $7.89 on 4.2 million shares. The CEO of Penn West Petroleum Ltd. says the company is in the midst of a big cultural shift, focusing less on churning out big volumes of crude and more on drilling the most profitable wells possible.

Saputo Inc. (TSX:SAP). Dairy processor. Up seven cents, or 0.13 per cent, to $52.76 on 208,252 shares. Australia's largest dairy producer has called off its battle for control of Warrnambool Cheese and Butter and decided to sell its shares to Canadian rival Saputo.
