OTTAWA - Statistics Canada says the number of people receiving regular employment insurance benefits was little changed in October at 510,500, following a decline in September.

It says the number of beneficiaries was down 8.4 per cent compared with October 2012.

The agency says British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan were the only provinces with notable increases in the number of regular EI beneficiaries in October compared with September.

In B.C., the number of beneficiaries was up 10.1 per cent, while Alberta saw its numbers rise 1.2 per cent and Saskatchewan had a 1.0 per cent increase.

New Brunswick was the lone province to record a decrease.
