Care Of Vehicle

Q. Simply, I know, the owner of the vehicle is responsible for having a fit vehicle which includes headlights, tail lights, side lights, emergency brake. But can you tell me what penalty one gets if one or all are out of wack?? Myself, I now do a walk around and check my car every week or so, as so should everyone, but there are so many out there that just don't know or care.

A: I walk around my police vehicle every time before I begin my shift. I am required to inspect the police vehicle for any deficiencies. I wash my own personal vehicle at least once a week and I check all the lights, brakes, fluid levels, etc. The fines for light violations rage from $81 to $109. Vehicle brake violations are $109.

Maintenance obligations
Section 25.17 of the Motor Vehicle Act Regulations indicates that the owner of every vehicle to which this Part applies must ensure that it is not driven, operated or parked on a highway unless it is maintained so as to comply in all respects with the standards.
