Beauty Secrets

Mirror, mirror

Mirror Mirror on the wall who is the most honest of them all?

So you look in the mirror and if you see something you don’t like … do you get closer and take another look? Well, you might be looking at those annoying hairs on your face.

You know what I’m talking about - hairs we wax, tweeze, laser or simply shave to achieve that baby soft hairless skin or to perfect that arched eyebrow and eliminate the uni brow.

Women’s facial hair is usually a taboo topic of conversation; let’s expose the secrets of how to get rid of it.

Although there are many methods of facial hair removal such as laser, waxing, threading, tweezing, depilatory creams, electrolysis and shaving. I have discovered the gentle art of “threading”.

Recently I had a conversation with a friend about the “art of threading”. I didn’t know much about it and where to go at the time until now. I was fascinated with the simplicity, quickness and low costs.

Did you know threading is popular and has been practiced for many centuries in India, Egypt, China and the Middle East?

Although this technique has been around for centuries it has been somewhat of a secret in the Okanagan until recently. Threading is a natural method of hair removal using no creams, wax or chemicals. It is safe for all skin especially sensitive skin, while causing no damage to the skin when done properly. Threading is not intended for coarse body hair but works on any color of hair. The most popular areas for threading are eyebrows, upper lip hair and other facial hair.

This procedure is performed by twisting a piece of cotton thread that has been knotted together at the ends then dragging the thread over the unwanted hairs. This quick motion gently pulls the hairs out with little or no discomfort to the client. Like many hair removal methods you may experience some reddening of the skin which will subside within a few minutes. As mentioned threading is safe for everyone, however, a person with severe acne should not consider threading.

The threading technique looks easy to learn, some people do it themselves although it takes practice to perfect. If threading is not done properly you could damage the skin, this is why it is important to find an experienced practitioner. If you are experiencing a “hairy situation” and would like to do something about it I have found a few places in Kelowna that practice threading.

If you are a practitioner and would like people in the Okanagan to know who you are or simply want to share your experience, log onto www.okanaganbeautysecrets.com write a comment or go to our facebook page and post your message.
