Ex Canucks in Showcase spotlight

Former Vancouver Canucks defenceman Harold Snepsts and former Canucks forward Ron Delorme have been named the honorary co-chairmen of the Bauer BCHL Showcase, which starts Friday in Chilliwack.

The pair combined to play almost 1,000 games for the Canucks in their careers.

Snepsts also spent time with the Minnesota North Stars, Detroit Red Wings and St. Louis Blues while Delorme spent five seasons with the Colorado Rockies before joining the Canucks in 1981.

Both players are best remembered for their rugged playing styles and their respective roles in the Canucks’ 1982 run to the Stanley Cup Finals.

Today, Snepsts and Delorme continue to work for the Canucks organization in scouting roles. Delorme is the team's chief amateur scout and Snepsts works alongside him, also focused on amateur players.

Both men will be at ice level before Saturday night’s 7 p.m. feature game between the Powell River Kings and the event host Chilliwack Chiefs to perform the ceremonial faceoff.

Meantime, the BCHL has announced event sponsor Bauer will be holding a special on and off-ice session for all hockey enthusiasts during the event at Chilliwack’s Prospera Centre.

The Bauer Experience gives young hockey players a chance to try out the newest gear from Bauer for the 2013/14 season. Bauer experts will be on hand to get all participants their best fit for their best performance.

A radar gun will be set up to test players’ shot velocities and there will be skills and drills set up on the ice.

Players will gear up in Prospera Centre’s dressing rooms and hit the ice on the facility’s Main Rink.

Participants can win free Bauer equipment and other giveaways will be offered too.

The Bauer Experience will be from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 7 at Prospera Centre.

The Bauer BCHL Showcase runs from Sept. 6 to 8 at Prospera Centre.

All 16 BCHL clubs will be there for two games apiece – games that count in the standings.
