The West Kelowna Warriors did something they haven't been able to accomplish in over two years - beat the Penticton Vees.

The Warriors snapped a 2-2 tie with three unanswered goals, the final one into an empty net in a 5-2 victory at the South Okanagan Events Centre.

It was the first win for the Warriors over Penticton since a 6-4 victory in the Peach City on December 1, 2010 - a span of 16 games.

Seb Lloyd, the game's first star, scored what proved to be the game winner at 5:49 of the second period, just 34 seconds after Sam Mellor had knotted the game at 2-2.

Lloyd also assisted on the insurance goal from Josh Monk early in the third period.

Brennan Clark, Shawn Hochhausen shorthanded and Matt Anholt into an empty net also scored for the Warriors.

Wade Murphy opened the scoring with the other Vees goal.

The Warriors outshot the Vees nearly two-to-one, 42-20 on the night.

Neither team was able to score on with the man advantage. Penticton went 0-2 while the Warriors were 0-3.

The game took a nasty turn in the dying moments when Murphy nailed Anholt in the head after the Warriors rookie scored into the empty net.

Players on both teams paired up and when the dust settled, four players from each team received minor penalties while Murphy, who was fingered for a blow to the head, and Warriors captain Max French also picked up misconducts.

Friday's win snapped the Warriors four game winless streak.

For the Vees, it was their first game back after a 13 day Christmas break.

The Warriors will try to win back-to-back games for the first time since mid-October when they host the Vees Saturday night at Royal LePage Place.

The last time the Warriors defeated Penticton on home ice was a 5-1 win on November 26, 2010.
