Vees acquire centre in 3 player swap

The Penticton Vees have acquired centre Brock Balson in a three player deal with the Salmon Arm Silverbacks.

Balson, 19, comes to the Vees while a pair of 18-year-olds, defenceman Mitch Ferguson and forward Evan Anderson head to Salmon Arm.

"We felt we needed to add a natural centre," says Vees head coach/GM Fred Harbinson.

"Brock has shown offensive production in our league in the past and we believe he can provide secondary scoring to our line-up."

Balson was in his second stint with the Silverbacks at the time of the trade.

In nine games this season he has two goals and six assists.

He played 20 games in Salmon Arm last season picking up 10 goals and 10 assists before joining the Western Hockey League's Kamloops Blazers.

Anderson had three assists in 18 games with the Vees while Ferguson had one assist in 12 games.

Both were in their first season in Penticton.

Meantime, the Vees also announced the signing of 16-year-old defenceman Brayden Park who made his debut with the Vees last weekend.

He had 10 points in 14 games with the KIJHL Osoyoos Coyotes this season.

"Brayden is a hard nosed defenceman who brings a physical element that we wanted on our back end," says Harbinson.

"Brayden is a great character kid and we look forward to developing him over the next few years."
