Vees back on the winning track
Oct 14, 2012 / 9:01 am
The Penticton Vees didn't take long to rebound from a rare BCHL loss Friday night. After dropping a 3-2 overtime decision in Victoria, the Vees rebounded for a 3-0 win against the Cowichan Valley Capitals in Duncan on Saturday.
Brad McClure scored all three goals and Nic Renyard made 17 saves, as the Vees posted their third shutout win in the last eight games, and their tenth win of the season.
McClure opened the scoring on a five-on-three power-play, rifling a shot over Derek Dun’s blocker at 12:38.
In the middle frame McClure added another after taking an outlet pass from inside the Vees zone, splitting the Capitals defense and then beating Dun high over the shoulder at 13:59.
McClure then put the finishing touches on his natural hat-trick early in the third.
After pouncing on a rebound in the right-circle, he put a shot off the base of the post and into the net at 1:38.
Renyard's first career BCHL shutout came in front of a large contingent of family and friends. The Ladysmith product played his minor hockey in Duncan.
With an Assist, Wade Murphy extended his league-best point streak to 10 games. Mike Rebry and Louie Nanne both had their point streaks come to an end.
The Vees are now 5-0-0 when scoring first and a perfect 7-0-0 when leading after the second period.
The Vees move to 10-1-0-1 on the season and sit six points clear of second place West Kelowna in the Interior Division.
