Vees sweep 4 game home stand
Oct 7, 2012 / 10:44 am
Louie Nanne registered a hat-trick and Wade Murphy tallied four assists as the Penticton Vees hammered the Trail Smoke Eaters 7-2 Saturday night.
The win pushes the Vees win streak to six and gives them a sweep of their four game home stand.
For the third straight game, the Vees surrendered the opening goal when Brent Baltus redirected a Shane Poulsen point-shot through Nic Renyard’s legs at 1:58.
However, just like the two previous games, the Vees didn’t waiver and came to life shortly after.
Nanne's first of the night, a power play tip-in at 7:01, tied the game.
Then Jordan McCallum made it 2-1 at 16:33 when he forced a puck over the Trail goal-line.
There was some confusion when the Referee didn’t signal a goal right away, although after a discussion it was allowed to stand. Alex Jewell would make it 3-1 in the period's final minute.
Mike Rebry and Troy Stecher added to the Vees lead in the second, then Nanne added two more in the third to round out Penticton's scoring.
Nanne’s hat-trick gives him four goals and nine points in eight games.
Rebry now has six goals and 11 points in six games. Murphy’s four assists gives him 17 points in eight games and sole possession of the team scoring lead.
The Vees now hit the road for five straight games starting in Victoria on Friday.
The island road trip sees the Vees play Victoria, Cowichan Valley and Nanaimo through next weekend. They don’t return home until October 26 when they host the West Kelowna Warriors.
