Warriors earn 1st ex. win

West Kelowna Warriors head coach Brandon West got a look at some of his veterans for the first time in the pre-season Saturday night in Salmon Arm.

They didn't disappoint.

Mason Richey, playing alongside Parm Dhaliwal and Lucas Cullen, scored twice, including the winner on an overtime power play, leading the Warriors to a thrilling 6-5 overtime victory.

With the vets in the lineup, the Warriors broke out offensively, after scoring only twice in their previous two outings with all-rookie squads.

Richey also added an assist.

Cole Wyatt with a pair, Brandon Dent an Cullen also scored for the Warriors.

Dhaliwal and rookie hopeful Gavin Puskar each had a pair of assists.

The Warriors threatened to run away with this one, scoring four times in the game's opening 12 minutes, but the Silverbacks rallied.

Salmon Arm got one back before the end of the first then, after Wyatt extended the lead back to four in the second, the Silverbacks roared back with three to close out the second and one more in the third to tie it.

It stayed that way until Richey's overtime heroics.

The Warriors, 1-2 on the pre-season, close out exhibition play with three more games next week.

They travel to Penticton Wednesday and Trail Friday, before ending things at home to the Smoke Eaters Saturday.

The Warriors open the regular season Friday, Sept. 6, when they entertain the Vernon Vipers.
