Vees eliminated in Game 6

The Cowichan Valley Capitals completed one of the largest BCHL playoff upsets in recent memory Monday, defeating the Penticton Vees 3 - 1 in Game 6 and eliminating them from Fred Page Cup contention

The home-team Capitals led the entire game, opening scoring late in the first with a powerplay goal from David Melaragni. Cowichan Valley would follow up with two more in the third from Dan McIntyre and Kolton Cousins.

Lukas Sillinger scored Penticton’s lone goal with just 35 seconds left in the game.

Penticton outshot the Capitals 37 - 22, but were stymied by Cowichan goalie Diamond Pierce, who picked up the game’s first star.

The Vees came into the series heavy favourites, finishing third place in the regular season with 79 points and 37 wins. The 16-seed Capitals were the bottom team to make the playoffs with just 40 points and 17 wins.
