Vees up for Hobey Baker

Three former members of the Penticton Vees are among 81 U.S. college players being considered for the Hobey Baker Award.

The award is handed out each year to the top college player in the U.S.

Defenceman Dante Fabbro (Boston University), goaltender Mat Robson (University of Minnesota) and forward Scott Conway (Providence) made the cut.

Fabbro has four goals and 17 points in 19 games this season. Conway has 12 goals and 19 points in 23 games while Robson has amassed a 6-4-4 record with a 2.39 goals against average in 16 games.

The three are among 15 former BCHL players on the list. They include former Salmon Arm forward Taro Hirose, who leads the NCAA in scoring with 11 goals and 35 points in 22 games at Michigan State.

Other nominees include University of Michigan defenceman Quinn Hughes who was taken with the seventh pick in last year's NHL draft by the Vancouver Canucks.

Fan voting is open now until midnight, March 10.

The field will then be trimmed to the top 10, before the three finalists are named.

The winner will be announced April 12.

Current Vancouver Canucks forward Adam Gaudette won the Hobey Baker last year.
