Warriors snap 5-game skid

Mike Hardman scored his league-leading 28th goal of the season 2:33 into overtime, leading the West Kelowna Warriors to a 4-3 overtime win in Merritt Friday.

The win was the first for the Warriors in 2019, snapping a five-game losing skid.

It was also their first win in Merritt, after suffering 8-3 and 8-4 defeats earlier in the season.

The Warriors never trailed Friday, holding one goal leads on three separate occasions. However, each time, the Centennials came back to tie it.

Matthew Kopperud forced overtime with a power play goal with less than four minutes to play in regulation. It was Merritt's third goal with the man advantage.

Andrew Viggars opened the scoring for the Warriors with his first of the season.

Max Bulawka with his 10th and Lucas Cullen's 21st, both in the second, gave the Warriors 2-1 and 3-2 leads respectively.

Connor Hopkins went the distance for the Warriors, turning away 36 of 39 shots he faced.

Quinten Waitzner, acquired at Thursday's deadline, made his Warriors debut. Garrett Worth, also acquired Thursday, was not in the lineup.

The Warriors look to make it two in a row Saturday when they host the Alberni Valley Bulldogs.
