Warriors take thumping

The West Kelowna Warriors scored first Monday - but it was all downhill from there.

The Warriors suffered their worst defeat of the season, an 8-1 drubbing at the hands of the Express in Coquitlam.

It was their fifth loss in a row, and comes on the heels of an 8-4 thumping at home to Trail Saturday.

The game was deadlocked 1-1 after the opening period before the Express blew the doors off the game, scoring six unanswered in the second.

Four of those goals came in a span of 3:25.

Jared Power scored three times to lead the Express attack. Connor Gregga added three assists while Christian Sanda and Jordan Schulting each had a pair of helpers.

Connor Hopkins got the start, but was pulled midway through the second after allowing four goals on 21 shots. Brock Baier went the rest of the way, allowing the last four goals, also on 21 shots.

Austin Chroney scored the lone goal for the Warriors just shy of the six minute mark of the first.

The Warriors are now off until Friday when they travel to Merritt. They'll entertain Alberni Valley Saturday.
