Warriors earn rare win

The West Kelowna Warriors picked up their first regulation-time victory in Vernon in almost three years.

The Warriors got all the offence they needed from Lucas Cullen and a 28 save performance from Connor Hopkins in a 2-1 victory over the Vipers at Kal Tire Place Saturday.

It's the Warriors first regulation win since February of 2016.

After a cautious, scoreless opening 20 minutes, the Warriors finally got on the board when Cullen stole the puck in the Vernon end and beat Bradley Cooper with his 15th of the season.

The Vipers got a gift of their own later in the period when Teddy Wooding evened the score while the Vipers were shorthanded.

It stayed that way until late in regulation time. With less than six minutes to go, Chase Dubois hit Cullen with a breakaway pass. Cullen made no mistake, cashing in his second of the night.

Hopkins kept the Vipers at bay the rest of the way to secure the win.

Both teams played the game one under the roster limit. The Warriors were without defencemen Andrew Viggars, Garrett Ewert and Austin Chroney.

The Vipers were without six regulars, including Alex Swetlikoff and Jack Judson who are both competing at the World Jr. A Challenge.

The Warriors are off until Tuesday when they open up a three game homestand against the Coquitlam Express
