'Hit list' allegation baseless

Allegations being levelled against the head coach of the West Kelowna Warriors are being called baseless and defamatory.

Anne Phair, testifying before a Parliamentary sub-committee on Sports-Related Concussions in Canada, said Geoff Grimwood, then the head coach of the Kindersely Klippers, employed a 'hit list,' of opponents his players should target.

Phair claimed her son was one of those players.

Grimwood wouldn't comment on the allegations, directing all questions to his lawyer.

"The statements being made about his directions are unfounded, untrue and defamatory," said layer Michael J. O’Connor.

"I am acting for him, and have put Ms. Phair on notice...to advise that any further public statements involving Mr. Grimwood are to cease and desist."

Phair told the committee her son, Carter Phair, had his season cut short in the 2016-17 and 2017-18 season due to concussions sustained in games against the Klippers.

In both instances, players involved were suspended, and Grimwood was also suspended three games following the second incident for repeated offences.

Despite the allegations, no investigations have been undertaken by either the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League or the BC Hockey League.
