Deja vu in game two

The Penticton Vees are now 2-0 in their first series in this year's playoffs, against the Merritt Centennials.

It was a quick start that took the Vees to another 4-1 win over the Centennials Saturday night at the South Okanagan Events Centre.

While game one got going just 84 seconds in, with a goal by Gabe Bast, game two similarly saw a goal less than three minutes in from Jamie Armstrong.

Duncan Campbell, Taylor Ward and Owen Sillinger also scored for the Vees, while Mat Robson blocked 20 of 21 shots on goal in the Vees’ zone.

Robson was on his way to a shutout, but was denied a perfect game when Stephan Seger got one past him late in the third.

Head coach Fred Harbinson says the team shone most in the second period.

“We really owned the zone in that period and getting that second goal was really critical. Until then, it’s still a one-shot game,” Harbinson said.

The win brings the Vees halfway to succeeding to the Interior division finals, with two wins in a best-of-seven series.

Next up, the Vees will visit the Centennials in Merritt for back-to-back games on Monday and Tuesday.
