The Vernon Vipers are finally getting into the playoffs.
The BC Hockey League team will face the Trail Smoke Eaters at Kal Tire Place on Friday after a 20-day layoff.
Coach Mark Ferner said the six-time national champions had a bye in the first round of playoffs and his players are ready to hit the ice for some second season action.
“Our guys are champing at the bit pretty good,” said Ferner during a team practice Wednesday. “Trail is a good hockey team. We're very familiar with them. We finished the season playing two-and-two with them.”
The Smokies dispatched the Salmon Arm Silverbacks in four games in round one of the Interior Division play offs.
The Vipers will play host to the Smoke Eaters Friday and Saturday at Kal Tire Place before the games head to Trail March 20-21.
Should games five through seven be necessary, they will alternate between Vernon and Trail March 23, 24 and 26.
In other BCHL playoff action, the Penticton Vees will host the Merritt Centennials Friday and Saturday before heading to Merrit for games four and five March 20-21.
