Vipers on defence

The Vernon Vipers are betting on defence next season.

Defenceman Carter Stephenson, 18, has committed to playing for the Vipers next season.

Stephenson is currently with the Vancouver North West Giants of the B.C. Major Midget League.

In 24 games this season, the five-foot-eleven, 170 lb. rearguard has registered four goals and 29 assists.

Last season, he scored 28 points in 40 games with the same club.

Stephenson has appeared in five BCHL games this season, two with the Vipers.

“Carter is a very high level defenceman that we feel will be able to step in right away and contribute next season,” said Viper head coach Mark Ferner, adding the player was sought after by a number of clubs.
