Rylan Ferster will be wearing his GM's hat the next few days, as the junior hockey trade deadline looms.
The trade deadline for junior leagues across the country is Jan. 10.
Ferster, head coach and GM of the West Kelowna Warriors, expects to spend the next few days working the phones in an effort to find a player or two to help the club get over the hump.
"It's no different than any other time of the year. You're always looking to make your team better. That's your job," said Ferster.
The difference now, he said, is this is the last chance. After the Sunday deadline, teams can add players if they have room on their roster, but only if that player is a free agent.
"You're looking for someone to hopefully give you a push.
"You're looking for guys who can give you depth or, if you need scoring, or a power-play defenceman. Teams' needs are different, but historically, guys are looking for defencemen at the deadline."
Ferster said he is looking to add depth at both the forward and defence positions.
"There is always a lot of chatter but, just when you think you're close, it can go sideways because there are always other teams involved."
The Warriors had hoped to save room for Luke Harrison, however, the overage forward has found a home with the Western Hockey League's Prince George Cougars.
Ferster has made a number of moves during the season, especially between the pipes, where the Warriors have used eight different goaltenders.
The Warriors are a perfect 3-0 since returning from the Christmas break. They host Merritt Friday at Royal LePage Place, in their final game before Sunday's trade deadline.
