Vees coach assists Leafs

The head coach of the Penticton Vees is lending a hand to the NHL's Toronto Maple Leafs.

Fred Harbinson is in Toronto this week, where he will serve as a guest coach at the Leafs' development camp.

The camps runs through Sunday in Toronto and Collingwood, Ont. Fifty-seven players are taking part, including the Leafs' entire 2015 draft class.

Leafs director of player development Scott Pellerin is overseeing the camp.

Harbinson will be on the ice over the six-day camp, helping to instruct and coach some of the team’s top prospects.

The Vees’ coach just completed his eighth season behind the bench in Penticton and helped guide the Vees to a Fred Page Cup championship, a Western Canada Cup championship and a semi-final berth at the RBC Cup.

The Vees have won three BCHL championships, an RBC Cup, Doyle Cup and Western Canada Cup under Harbinson's direction.

Penticton will open its main training camp Aug. 24, with the Vees' first pre-season game scheduled for Aug. 26 in West Kelowna.

Season tickets are on sale and available at the Valley First Box Office at the South Okanagan Events Centre or by phone at 250-493-VEES (8337).
