Warriors blank Cents, move into fourth

Another Friday the 13th - another Warriors win over the Merritt Centennials.

As they did in their home opener (Friday, Sept 13), the West Kelowna Warriors made Friday the 13th an unlucky night for the visiting Centennials at Royal LePage Place.

Andy Desautels turned aside 30 shots for his first career BC Hockey League shutout and the offence got all the goals they would need in the second period in a 2-0 win Friday.

The Warriors dominated the middle frame outshooting the Cents 14-4 and outscoring them 2-0.

Jordan Masters scored the only goal Desautels would need, beating Merritt netminder Devon Kero 4:41 into the second period.

Less than three minutes later Matt Anholt got some insurance scoring with the Warriors holding a two man advantage.

Desautels closed the door the rest of the way turning aside 14 shots in the third to preserve the win and the shutout.

The Warriors have now won two in a row and three of their last four to pull even with the Centennials for the fourth and final playoff spot in the Interior Division.

West Kelowna holds three games in hand on the Centennials and two on the third place Salmon Arm Silverbacks who sit just two points clear in third place.

The Warriors look to make it three in a row when they entertain the Island Division leading Powell River Kings Sunday afternoon at 2:30 at Royal LePage Place.
