Broncos stand between Sun and history

The Okanagan Sun have had some tenacious defences during their 33 seasons in the BC Football Conference.

Names like Mike Letendre, Gary Handley, Ryan Folk, Steven Doege, Eric Duchene, Jermaine Haley and Terrance Huston to name just a few made life miserable for not only quarterbacks but offences in general.

Teams allowed an astounding 49 points (2004) and 56 points (1997) over the course of a full 10 game regular season.

Entering this season, the club had recorded 45 shutouts over 32 seasons.

While not as dominating game in and game out as some of those before them, the 2013 defence has a chance Sunday to do what no other team before them has accomplished - record three consecutive shutouts.

Prior teams have put up back-to-back goose eggs on five separate occasions.

The accomplished the feat in 1996, 1997 (twice), 1998 and 2004.

The 1997 team recorded an amazing five shutouts, one of those in the playoffs.

Entering into Sunday's regular season finale against the Kamloops Broncos the Sun have registered 30-0 (in Kamloops) and 61-0 (vs. Chilliwack) wins over the past two weekends.

A win of any kind Sunday will solidify the Sun's hold on second place in the BCFL.

Saturday's 71-0 victory by the VI Raiders over Westshore Rebels means the Raiders will finish first in the BCFC for the seventh time in the club's nine year history.

The Sun will host the Langley Rams next weekend.

This Sunday's regular season finale against Kamloops begins at 2 p.m. at the Apple Bowl.
