Sun DB earns BCFC top player honours

Okanagan Sun defensive back Brennan Van Nistlerooy has been named the top defensive player in the BC Football Conference for week 8.

Van Nistlerooy was all over the field in Chilliwack and his efforts earned him the “BC Lions Defensive Player of the Week honours”  The 20-year-old would make seven solo tackles, had a batted ball, blocked a punt and recovered it for a 15 yard touchdown. This is the first honour for the Lethbridge native this season.

Offensive Player of the Week  Receiver #85 Eric Eggleston – Westshore Rebels

The Westshore Rebels would lose a tight game on Saturday evening in Kamloops as a convert attempt was blocked as the buzzer sounded to handing the Broncos the win. The loss spoils a terrific game by the “BC Lions Offensive Player of the Week;” Rebels receiver Eric Eggleston.

The wide out tied a Rebels single game record with 10 catches for 199 yards and three touchdowns. Each catch the Victoria native made averaged 19.9 yards. It’s the first Player of the Week honour for the fourth year receiver.

Special Teams Player of the Week Returner #32 Nathan Lund – Langley Rams

There was no shortage of “special” plays on special teams during the Langley Rams and VI Raiders game on Saturday afternoon.   Rams returner Nathan Lund was brilliant returning a total of eight kicks.  He would return five punts for 21 yards and three kickoffs for 137 yards including an 80 yard return for a touchdown. He is this week’s “BC Lions Special Teams Player of the Week.”  It's his first honour this season.

Week 9 of the BCFC will see a full slate of games, all scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m. on Saturday night.  The rolling Vancouver Island Raiders will face their island rival the Westshore Rebels.  The Langley Rams will host the Valley Huskers and the Kamloops Broncos welcome the Okanagan Sun.
