Sun out for spring camp

All positions are "up for grabs," as the Okanagan Sun football team opens spring camp today.

The team’s 36th camp, taking place at the historic Apple Bowl, will be led by the new coaching staff, with head coach Ben Macauley at the helm. He and his new staff will put players through tests of endurance and stamina as the defending BC Football Conference champions take the first few steps to the new season.

“I'm excited about spring camp,” says Macauley. “We have a chance to bring back some of the best players in the country and start putting in the work necessary to get us back where we need to be on the field.”

“The players are itching to suit up and show the work they've been putting in, in the gym. We have some new faces and have really gone after players we believe to be of quality talent as well as character,” he said.

The team says every position on the field is “up for grabs,” as veterans will be put through the same testing as the rookies.

With the amount of graduates from the 2015 season, this year’s camp is expected to be one of the most competitive in recent memory. Quarterback, running back and receiver positions are open for the taking.

Player registration is on now, with the first workouts scheduled for Friday evening. The camp will end with a scrimmage on Sunday, starting at 11:30 a.m. at the Apple Bowl.

The Sun will open the new season on the road on Saturday, July 23, in Chilliwack. The home opener is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 6, with the Westshore Rebels in town – along with former head coach Shane Beatty.
