Avalanche danger

A high danger rating for avalanches means it's not advisable to head into the BC mountains this weekend.

Canadian Avalanche Centre forecasts indicate travel isn't recommended in alpine and treeline areas.

The centre says natural avalanches are likely and human-triggered avalanches are very likely.

A series of weather systems has dumped heavy snow on many BC mountains.

While the risk is supposed to decrease Saturday, the avalanche centre indicates the threat will rise again on Sunday when another storm moves in.

The high-danger areas include the South Coast, Sea-to-Sky, the North and South Columbia, Monashees and Selkirks, Kootenay-Boundary, the Purcells and the South Rockies. (The Canadian Press, CKNW)
