Gang member convicted for '04 murder

A man who has been identified by police as a gang member has been convicted of first-degree murder following a botched robbery in 2004.

Michael Newman is expected to be sentenced in B.C. Supreme Court on Thursday in the death of 38-year-old Marc Rozen.

Rozen was shot and stabbed multiple times during a botched robbery at his apartment in Vancouver's west end.

He had advertised a platinum solitaire ring for sale but the ring was never recovered.

Newman was identified by police as a member of the United Nations gang and was serving time in an Ontario jail when he was charged.

The B.C. Supreme Court judge cited DNA and footprint evidence as key factors in the conviction. (CKNW/News1130/The Canadian Press)
