Alleged seat-slasher arrested

Transit Police say a 63-year-old man from Surrey, B.C., has been charged following an investigation into the slashing of nearly 500 SkyTrain seats.

The seats were cut between August and November 2012 by somebody who used a box cutter, and police say the damage is estimated to be more than $45,000.

Police say investigators reviewed hundreds of hours of video before making the arrest.

Terald Nicholas Gorecki, who was employed as a contract maintenance worker for SkyTrain, has been charged with mischief over $5,000.

Gorecki has been released on an undertaking, isn't allowed on transit property and may not possess any knives or sharp instruments except for eating in his home or tools outside of work.

Gorecki is expected to appear in court in February.
