Jailed & accused of arranging murders

A man charged after his wife was murdered near Revelstoke, has now been charged with trying to arrange the murders of witnesses in his coming trial.

Fifty-six-year-old Peter Ernest Edward Beckett was charged last year with the first-degree murder of his wife, Laura Letts-Beckett, in August of 2010.

The RCMP say they began an investigation four months ago into allegations that Beckett, who was already in jail awaiting trial in his wife's murder, was plotting to get someone to kill some of the witnesses the Crown would rely on in that trial.

As a result, Beckett now faces the additional charges of counseling to commit murder and obstruction of justice.

Beckett was informed of the new charges at the Surrey Pre-trial centre, where he remains in custody.
