A 49-year-old Chilliwack man is dead after he was hit by a train early Wednesday morning.

The incident occurred shortly before 5:30 a.m.

Police in the Fraser Valley say the man was struck by a CN train about 200 metres west of the railway crossing at Young Road.

He was killed instantly.

CN police are at the scene assisting Chilliwack RCMP in the investigation.

"At this point in the investigation it is not appearing to look suspicious," says Cpl. Tammy Hollingsworth.

"This is clearly a tragic accident."

This is the second death in Western Canada this week involving a train.

On Monday, 19-year-old Daniel Michael McPherson was killed by a train in Leduc, Alberta.

McPherson was apparently walking along the tracks with his back to the train while wearing headphones.
