Helicopter crash eyewitness

As many as four people may have been killed in a helicopter crash.

It happened just after 1 p.m. Tuesday when a Big Horn Bell 2006 helicopter crashed into the middle of a residential street in Cranbrook.

Larry Belzac saw the helicopter minutes before it crashed and even took photos before and after the aircraft went down. The retired air force veteran was walking home after visiting his brother when he heard the helicopter overhead.

“I wondered why it was flying so low, it was flying under the legal limit. Just after I got home, my brother called and told me it had crashed,” says Belzac.

He says he had walked right past the spot where the helicopter went down.

“If I had been going home even a few minutes later, I could have been standing underneath it when it went down. It hit at the end of an alley. There are apartment buildings and single unit dwellings in the immediate area and it‘s amazing that it didn't hit any of them.”

Belzac says he saw the main and the rear rotors of the helicopter and they looked intact.

“My unprofessional opinion is that it looks like the helicopter stalled before it crashed.”
