Lonesome Holds, Wells Gray Grows

Lonesome Lake Fire Holding:
Crews have some good news on BC's largest fire, just west of William's Lake. The fire has not grown and is holding steady at 19,000 hectares. Favorable weather yesterday permitted crews to build more containment lines and to attack active portions of the fire. The fire is now 45% contained.

It's still too early to know when evacuated Charlotte Lake residents can go back home.

Hobson Lake Fire Grows:
The Hobson Lake fire in Wells Gray Park spread significantly Monday due to several days of hot weather and increased wind activity. The wildfire has increased to an estimated 4,000 hectares.

The Hobson Lake wildfire is one of 21 lightning-caused fires that were discovered in Wells Gray Park on July 25th. The fire is burning west of Hobson Lake, which is approximately 80 kilometers northwest of Clearwater. Crews haven't been able to fight it due to lack of resources and the initial moderate danger of the fire.

The B.C. Forest Service and B.C. Parks have been closely monitoring and assessing the Hobson Lake fire since its discovery. There were seven fires within the vicinity of the Hobson Lake area and they have since merged into the Hobson Lake fire.

Mable Lake Fire
The Mable Lake fire near Enderby is at 20 hectares. Officials say it is 12 km from nearest structure.

B.C. Stats:
There are 350 fires burning in the province. 160,714 hectares have been burned so far this year.
