Vehicle fire near Merritt causing delays, use Hwy 1 or 3 for alternate routes

Drive BC has now cleared the vehicle fire incident and the road is now cleared. 

ORIGINAL 7:21 p.m.

A vehicle fire in the southbound lane of Highway 5 is causing delays 6 kilometres north of Hope to Merritt.

The engulfed vehicle is at Larson Hill, exit 250. 

The incident is between Highway 5A and Exit 183: Peers Creek Rd for 102.8 kilometres. 

DriveBC says to expect up to an hour delay.

Alternate routes are available via Highway 1 and Highway 3.
