BC government furthers aid for forestry workers

Forestry help kicks in

The B.C. government has made another step towards more support for workers impacted by the mill closures.

Through the website www.forestryworkersupport.gov.bc.ca, people who have been affected by this turbulent time for forestry can easily access support programs online.

The site includes information on the forestry employment program, community support grants, training opportunities and the retirement bridging program.

Applications for the retirement program are now being accepted for the B.C. interior for employees of a forestry company in the area.

Those eligible can receive up to $75,000 to help their transition into retirement.

The amount of funding received is dependent on their employment history and situation.

The provincial government has already designated $69 million to fund forestry worker support programs, which they announced in mid-September.
