Homicide investigation open

RCMP in the East Kootenays are investigating a homicide.

The Kimberley RCMP was called late Sunday to a location on Highway 95A, just east of the community. Arriving to find an unresponsive woman, officers tried to resuscitate her and called an ambulance. Despite the efforts of police and paramedics, she was declared deceased.

Police say the dead woman is a 38-year-old resident of Kimberly. Her identity is not being released.

A 39-year-old male has been arrested, but was later released without charge after “consultation with the B.C. Prosecution Service.”

The investigation remains in the early stages, police say.

“Investigators are seeking public assistance and ask anyone that travelled on Forest Crowne Gate (between Kimberley and Marysville) between 10 p.m. and midnight on Sunday August 25, 2019, to contact the Southeast District Major Crime Unit at 1-877-987-8477,” said Sgt. Steve Rigby of the Southeast District Major Crime Unit.
