Incident linked to murder?

Charges of attempted murder have been laid in Williams Lake, and police believe the incident may be related to an earlier homicide.

On Friday, RCMP were investigating an incident at the Rudy Johnson Bridge and, while following up, a vehicle matching the description of one linked to an Aug. 6 homicide was spotted on Highway 97 in the city.

Following a brief police chase, the vehicle was stopped near Airport Road.

Three people were taken into custody. Two have since been released pending further investigation, but Jayson Gilbert remains in custody and has been charged with two counts of attempted murder for the incident at the bridge.

Police say the incident also involves a missing person investigation, and they are attempting to locate Branton Regner. Anyone who may have information regarding Regner or his whereabouts is asked to call Williams Lake RCMP at 250-392-6211.

Charges have yet to be laid in the Aug. 6 homicide, but police say preliminary indicators suggest the two investigations may be linked.

“These remain active investigations for the Williams Lake RCMP and North District Major Crime Unit,” says Insp. Jeff Pelley. “It is important that any potential witnesses, or people that may have information about these incidents, contact the police.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Williams Lake RCMP at 250-392-6211 or CrimeStoppers at 1-800 222-8477.
