Child struck, killed

Shawnigan Lake RCMP are investigating after a child was struck and killed by a vehicle Tuesday morning in a Cobble Hill driveway.

Police were called about 11:45 a.m. and arrived to find B.C. Ambulance and fire crews attempting lifesaving efforts.

The driver is co-operating, police said. Preliminary evidence is that the driver was not impaired.

RCMP Victim Services attended to help the child’s family.

“This is a tragic and traumatic incident, and we are working closely with all members and first responders who attended the scene to ensure they have the support they need ,” said Shawnigan Lake RCMP detachment commander Sgt. Tim Desaulniers.

The B.C. Coroners Service has begun an investigation.
