Treacherous hwy conditions

If you are planning on heading to Whistler for the Christmas holidays be prepared for extremely dangerous driving conditions.

The Sea to Sky Highway received a massive dump of snow this weekend making for terrible roads.

More than 25 vehicles have gone off the road or into the ditch between Squamish and Whistler, Squamish RCMP told CTV News Vancouver.

Variable speed signs have been set to 70 km/h but drivers are warned to avoid driving on the highway if possible.

DriveBC is reminding the public to slow down and drive with caution.

Winter tires are necessary on the Sea to Sky Highway.

The weather agency forecasts periods of rain on Sunday, which would turn the snow into slush.
