Terrifying fire tornado

Chelsea Powrie

A BC Wildfire Service firefighter captured startling footage this weekend outside of Vanderhoof of a fire tornado.

The incredible video shows firefighters struggling to pull their hose back from the tornado, then flames getting whipped up into the winds.

On Instagram, user M.C. Schidlowsky, who identifies herself as a wildland firefighter and paramedic, shared the video this weekend.

"Fire tornado destroyed our line. It threw burning logs across our guard for 45 minutes and pulled our hose 100 ft plus ft in the air before melting it. That's definitely a first," she wrote in the description.

She added that the tornado "got over 200 ft tall, but the smoke was too [thick] to see it clearly on video."

The video has since garnered tens of thousands of views.
