Lillooet: Stay Out Or Be Arrested

TOWN CREEK FIRE - LILLOOET
Two hundred people gathered for a town hall meeting in Lillooet last night.
At the meeting police told residents that will be arrested if the do not obey evacuation orders. So far, 3,900 people are currently under evacuation alert.

There is some positive news to report on the progress to fight the fire. Fire officials say the danger has eased somewhat as fire lines have been strengthened. There are 40 pieces of heavy equipment and 13 helicopters working the fire. Over 200 fire fighters split up between a day and a night shift.

Six kilometers west of Lillooet, another fire in steep terrain has now grown to now 110 hectares. 50 firefighters are working that blaze.

VERMELIN CREEK FIRE
The Vermelin Creek fire is estimated to be 110 hectares. The fire is approximately twenty-seven kilometers east of the town of Little Fort in a remote location.

Lightning sparked this fire late Wednesday afternoon and the fire is burning in high elevation, steep terrain. No homes or structures are threatened by the fire at this time.

Currently there are 50 fire fighters, 3 helicopters and 14 pieces of heavy equipment working to establish control lines on this fire

WILLIAMS LAKE FIRES
BCFS crews and resources continue to be dispatched to lightning caused fires throughout the Cariboo/Chilcotin. There are currently 35 active fires in the region, three of which have extensive resources on site and six of which are receiving sustained action.

MORE PARKS CLOSED
Fire officials closed some parks in the Williams Lake area yesterday as a result of increasing forest fire danger and a 400 ha, uncontrolled fire burning near the Hunlen Falls-Turner Lake Canoe Circuit in Tweedsmuir Park. B.C. Parks and the B.C. Forest Service are advising the following closures effective immediately:

Closed:
- The Hunlen Falls-Turner Lake Trail
- The Turner Lake Canoe Circuit
- The Ptarmigan Lake Trail and the entire Ptarmigan Lake area
