Weather not co-operating

UPDATE 8:25 a.m.

Environment Canada meteorologist Allan Coldwells tells Castanet, "there isn't much in the way of relief from the heat, "the temperatures are still above seasonal, actually warming up later in the weekend and into next week. Highs above seasonal, 5 degrees, hitting 32 by Wednesday, a pretty warm dry period."

"No good news in terms of moisture availability at least there won't be any lightning in the region for the next few days anyway."

Winds are expected to gust to 30 Km/h this afternoon.

ORIGINAL 7:19 a.m.

As firefighters continue to battle wildfires across the province and here in the Okanagan they are crossing their fingers and hoping that mother nature will lend a hand.

Unfortunately, the forecast according to Environment Canada does not look promising. We have the potential for lightning in the region but according to the latest information, it does not appear likely. We are looking at highs in the 30 degree Celsius range for today.

There is also very little in the form of precipitation in the next 5 days and while temperatures are expected to dip into the weekend they are also expected to rise again to as much as 5 degrees above seasonal normals.

The UV index is 9 or very high.
