A Nelson man who collects odd objects posted an advertisement on the Shop and Swap Facebook page for a gently used coffin.
“I was not there when it was used, but from the amount of scratches it looks like it was very minorly used,” said Kelsey Stratas.
He traded other objects for the coffin and said he likes to keep the mystery around the history of it.
“I could not say if anyone was buried in it or not,” he said. “I refused to ask as to keep the mystery, it could have been a one off and sold to someone for storage.”
Stratas said he is known to collect strange things and has an entire Facebook page of 'creepy' objects.
“I like stirring things up and at the same time it helps advertise and sell my products,” he said.
Three offers have already been made for the $300 coffin.
“Certainly a new coffin is worth way more than that and one with an actual history would be worth even more,” he said.
