Sun back for Canada Day

Looks like this Canada Day long weekend will have a few bright spots, weatherwise at least.

According to Environment Canada meteorologist Doug Lundquist, "currently we think Sunday is going to be the best day. It is the most difficult weather pattern to nail down because it's unsettled. We have cold air moving over us, and it changes hour by hour."

Lundquist says Monday is expected to be nice, no showers, but it's going to be windy.

"Plan for the worst, pack for rain and cooler temperatures, but get out and enjoy the outdoors when the sun does poke it's head out," he advises.

Tuesday looks to be rainy again, and Lundquist says we may have to wait until next Thursday before the sun and warmer temperatures return.

"We can't complain because it is the time of year for the showers around the Okanagan. It's just the nature of the beast ... usually by the first week of July, things start to heat up."

Firefighters are also happy to see the cooler wet temperatures. The B.C. Interior was trending towards furnace-like conditions earlier in June. "We're still below average for the month of June for our precipitation totals, and any more rain we get at the end of the month or early in July is critical," the BC Wildfire Service says.
