Amid a flooding crisis in the City of Grand Forks, motorists are getting a break on gas prices as an extra way to offer reprieve.
Resident Ken Ludwar sent Castanet a photo showing the gas price at $117.9 at the Super Save gas station along the Crowsnest Highway in the city, with a sign reading 'flood relief pricing' underneath.
Ludwar said prices had fluctuated between $129.9 and $146.9 before the drastic drop.
"It helps the poor folks who need to keep pouring that fuel into pumps and generators, and also all the support vehicles buzzing around," Ludwar said.
Staff at the Super Save location said on Thursday the price had dropped even further to $115.9. They said customers have been appreciative and added the company is simply trying to help out however it can.
According to gasbuddy.com, gas prices in Grand Forks are the cheapest by far in B.C. Four stations in the city were listed at $117.9 on Thursday morning, and the next-cheapest gas anywhere in the province was $128.9.
The Crowsnest Highway is dry right now through town, one resident told Castanet, who added people are continuing to brace for another flood surge as the Granby and Kettle rivers rise and with thunderstorms in the forecast.
As of Wednesday, close to 1,500 properties were on evacuation order in the Regional District Kootenay Boundary. Hundreds of homes have been damaged or destroyed from flooding in the region.
