Drive-by shooting

RCMP are investigating shots fired in Nanaimo.

Mounties responded to a report of gunfire at a home which was shot six times Tuesday morning – prompting neighbours to take cover.

Neighbours say the normally quiet neighbourhood was filled with yelling and then rapid gunfire.

"I told my partner just don't go near the windows, just stay hidden," said one area resident to who asked CTV to protect his identity.

He said he then heard the sound of a car speeding away.

The Vancouver Island Emergency Response Team and police dog unit responded but were unable to track down the shooter.

"There was upwards of five adults in the home. Nobody was injured," said Nanaimo RCMP spokesman Const. Gary O'Brien.

Neighbours say they know of at least one child living at the home.

RCMP say they believe the shooting was targeted and there is no risk to the general public.
