BC climber disappears

Two experienced mountain climbers have vanished in southeastern Alaska, one of whom is from Squamish.

B.C. native Marc-Andre Leclerc and George "Ryan" Johnson, from Juneau, AK, were dropped off by helicopter in the Juneau Icefield on Sunday, where they climbed the Mendenhall Glacier.

The pair was expected to ski down and return on Wednesday evening, but never did.

Leclerc posted a picture on his Instagram account on Monday from the summit of the Mendenhall Towers. Monday evening was reportedly the last time friends and family have been in contact with the pair.

Alaska State Troopers said in an initial search, they found the gear the two climbers had planned to ski out with.

Leclerc is a renowned climber who was featured in Climbing Magazine last fall.
