One dead in AM incident


UPDATE: 4:45 p.m.

One man has been confirmed dead as a result of a "disturbance call" in Victoria early Saturday morning, according to the Victoria Police Department.

Police said the incident resulting in the man's death occurred in the 1400 block of Hillside Avenue — less than a block west of the Hillside Shopping Centre.

The Vancouver Island integrated major crime unit is asking for information from anyone who was in the area between 4:30 a.m. and 5:30 a.m.

A witness had reportedly seen police officers giving CPR to a victim lying on the ground just before 5:20 a.m.

Further details of the incident are unknown, and the identity of the deceased hasn't been confirmed.

The VIIMCU is leading an investigation with VicPD and the BC Coroners Service.

Part of a main street in a Victoria neighbourhood has been blocked off as police attend a "serious incident."

Victoria Police have blocked Hillside Avenue between Belmon Avenue and Gosworth Road, which has been the case since 10 a.m. on Saturday.

A witness claimed they saw police officers giving CPR to a victim lying on the ground in that area, just before 5:30 a.m.

The Vancouver Island major crime unit has reportedly been called in.

Police said traffic will be disrupted for the remainder of the day.

Further details of the incident are not yet known.
