More snow for valley

UPDATE 8:02 a.m.

DriveBC has tweeted out a picture of the current conditions at the junction of highway 3 at the Hope, Coquihalla junction.

Conditions are deteriorating and DriveBc is reporting sections of slippery compact snow and slush from Hope to Merritt.

You're advised to adjust your speed for the conditions and drive carefully.

ORIGINAL 6:26 a.m.

Snow is falling across the Okanagan this morning.

Vernon has received a few centimeters this morning and it's snowing lightly in Kelowna as well. The snow is wet and slippery which could make the morning commute tricky for drivers.

Environment Canada says the snow in Kelowna is expected to turn to rain later this afternoon but they have issued a snowfall warning for Highway 3 from the Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass.

Snowfall, with total amounts of 20 to 30 cm is expected.

A Pacific low-pressure system is spreading snow to highway 3, periods of light snow today will become heavy at times tonight as the low crosses the area. Total snow accumulations of 20 to 30 cm can be expected before the snow tapers off to a few flurries Friday morning.

You are advised to consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow.

Weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions.

ShiftIntoWinter.ca reminds drivers to know before you go. Adjust to winter driving behaviour and use winter tires and chains. Check DriveBc for the latest road conditions.
