Elderly librarian assaulted

Chelsea Powrie

A shocking and sudden assault on an elderly librarian at a housing for homeless community event at the Richmond Public Library has Richmond RCMP investigating.

Shortly before 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, a male suspect kicked the woman, knocking her flying backwards to the ground.

The incident was caught on video and shared on Twitter.

The suspect immediately turned and fled the scene, and was not apprehended.

He is described by police as an Asian male in his early to mid-thirties, clean shaven, wearing dark pants, dark Converse-style sneakers, a puffy winter jacket and glasses. He was also carrying a blue backpack.

“We are looking to swiftly identify, locate, and arrest this suspect,” says Corporal Dennis Hwang. “The suspect may be unrelated to the community event and may possibly be a regular at the library or the surrounding area.”

“We know there were many potential witnesses that will have valuable information to share with us. Anyone with information as to the identity of the suspect or his whereabouts is asked to contact us immediately.”

Those with information can contact Richmond RCMP at 604-278-1212 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
